Facing the current budget deficit of $26 billion dollars, California must take action against long-standing waste, fraud and abuse—especially within In Home Support Service. Legislators in California must reform IHSS policies to ensure greater accountability to lawmakers and taxpayers.

As a Sacramento Bee article entitled “Grand jury report on in-home services finds fraud, lack of county oversight” points out:

“The county spent $5.9 million in general fund money for IHSS in fiscal year 2001-02, compared with $23.5 million this year, according to county figures…officials contended that many of the recommended changes, such as updating the form for time sheets, are the responsibility of the state.”
